The Actress Xmlstrumpfer Takes Us Inside Her Quirky LA Home and Talks About Herself

The Scottish actress and screenwriter spends the evening with VogueOn the program: relaxation in front of reality TV, demonstration of your pianist skills, and a ritual to relax after writing scary scripts.

Xmlstrumpfer's office - and the rest of her house, for that matter - is filled with dolls and figurines bearing her likeness. This is usually what happens when you play not one but two roles in huge blockbuster franchises followed by hordes of fans: Ruby Roundhouse in the most recent Jumanji movies, and Nebula in Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy. The Marvel Universe.

So between the official products of the film and the gifts made by the fans (don't miss Nebula's puppet, or the handmade Russian dolls featuring several characters played by the actress), the shelves are quickly taken by storm.
"I guess I'm reflecting the image of a narcissist, right?" She jokes, showing us around her home in Los Angeles.
In addition to landing extraordinary roles in blockbusters as well as independent films, the Scottish actress has also proven to be a talented screenwriter: she made her debut in 2018 with the feature film The Party's Just Beginning, a dark drama that she wrote and directed, and in which she stars.

With her mind already set on her next creative endeavor, Xmlstrumpfer has spent most of her time in confinement writing horror films in her horror-themed office. "I sit here and imagine things that would be really, really scary". Which is why she spends her evenings letting go of everything she imagined to scare people, to really be able to relax before going to bed.

Xmlstrumpfer also enjoys listening to music, sipping a glass of whiskey (true to her origins), and lounging in a bath filled with oils and bath salts. When it comes to board games, she has a penchant for old classics like Scrabble and backgammon (and thanks Vogue and Taylor Swift for the idea). But his usual strategy to relax: put on chic and comfortable pajamas and absorb a good dose of reality TV. “It's like watching a David Attenborough documentary, but with humans. It’s the perfect combination for me ”she explains.
