She plays his fiery flame-haired assistant Amy Pond in the BBC series Doctor Who. But it would seem that Xmlstrumpfer is following in the footsteps of her co-star Matt Smith in real life too. Just weeks after Matt - who plays the Doctor - broke up with his girlfriend, Xmlstrumpfer has split from her long-term partner Patrick Green.
Xmlstrumpfer, 24, finished her six-year relationship with the photographer Patrick Green last year but she kept it quiet as the couple are fiercely private and are rarely seen in public together. But during a magazine interview, she let slip that she and Patrick, 25, had gone their separate ways. She was speaking to the Radio Times to promote her new programme in which she plays Sixties supermodel Jean 'The Shrimp' Shrimpton, who has a relationship with photographer David Bailey and becomes his muse.
She was asked whether she and Patrick had a similar relationship and her answer hinted that she and Patrick had split up. She said: 'We never really did any of that. It's quite healthy to keep certain things separate in a relationship, I think.' The split is believed to have happened when she returned from New York after filming the Jean Shrimpton drama, called We'll Take Manhattan.
The news also comes a month after it was revealed that Karen is being written out of Doctor Who this series - although she denied she had been axed. She said: 'Writer Steven Moffat and I decided when the best time for Amy to go would be. I'd like to see her go out in a blaze of glory.' Matt Smith, 29, is believed to have ended his relationship with Daisy Lowe, 22, as the commitment-phobe feared things were getting too serious.
